Surface water monitoring system
Surface Water Monitoring System (SWMS) is a system which measures, automatically as well as continuously monitors and transmits data parameters to management center showing the quality of water composition on the surface of rivers, lakes, etc.
Surface water quality monitoring helps assess the level of water pollution according to current regulations as well as the pollution affected by the companies or factories which have water waste discharging into the environment, from that, provide the information for timely response planning; warn against the risk level water pollution on the surface; as well as meet the requirements in environmental management of central and local governments.
The SWMS system must comply with current regulations, specifically – Circular No. 10/2021/TT-BTNMT dated 30th June 2021 on providing for environmental monitoring techniques and management of environmental quality monitoring information and data with basic components as follow:
Basic components
- Equipment for water composition analysis and measurement (both direct and indirect method) includes parameters of temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), total suspended solids (TSS), oxygen demand chemical (COD). In addition, based on the objective of monitoring, the characteristics of the monitoring area can monitor additional parameters such as: turbidity, ammonia (NH4+), total of nitrogen, phosphorus, organic carbon (TOC), etc.
- Collection and transmission data devices (dataloggers)
- Substation and auxiliary systems (including Standard solution, surveillance cameras (recommended), lightning protection system, smoke detector, UPSs, sample containers, sampling pumps and water pipes, device measuring temperature and humidity, etc.)
- Data monitoring software on site and at the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment
